Looking at the history of mankind, it is unfortunate that we have to say trafficking was always present. Fortunately, we focus now on prevention more than ever, but there are still a lot of misconception and misinformation about this illegal practice. In order to successfully fight it, it is critical to push the narrative that is true and informational. Just by doing that, we can have a significant impact in raising the awareness about trafficking. Although the practice is illegal everywhere, there is no country in the world where it does not exist.
Key Takeaways:
- Human trafficking is illegal but that doesn’t stop it from happening all around the world as in the US there were over 22,000 victims as of 2019.
- Typically, trafficking is focused on those who are less fortunate as the traffickers themselves promise a better lifestyle for those they are preying on.
- Men and boys are also affected in trafficking as about 30% of people that are currently being trafficked now are males.
“Human trafficking occurs in every country around the world. Of the $150 billion in profit annually worldwide, almost one-third of that (US $47 billion) is generated entirely from trafficking in developed nations, namely those in the European Union and the United States.”
