Sex trafficking is an industry that harms millions of women around the world each year. Kristi Van Es is the Founder of Offspring Project which she created after she went on a visit to India. Offspring is a training center for the victims and they typically accepts girls that come from a referral from a partner organization. Obviously women who were sex trafficking victims live with a lot of trauma which is why it is important that the staff of Offspring is well trained and very sensitive.
Key Takeaways:
- Offspring was started because of a trip that Kristi Van Es when on to India where she first learned about the sex trafficking problem.
- Typically, a girl will join Offspring through a referral from a different organization who knows what Offspring does and knows if they can help.
- With the aspect of sex trafficking there is obviously very severe emotions but luckily the staff at outreach is very sensitive to the survivors.
“I arrived in India knowing no-one. IJM in Kolkata have been one of the strongest connections we’ve had from the very beginning. I know that I can email them anytime and ask for advice and Offspring wouldn’t be what it is today without the support from IJM in Kolkata.”
