Humans have been the victims of trafficking since the beginning of time. We have reached an era where there is concerted global effort that aims to stop this practice. Many steps forward have already been made, but the road ahead is still long and treacherous. While trafficking is not necessarily done with the aim of organized prostitution, the fact is that most victims are trafficked for this purpose. It is estimated that close to three out of four victims end in some kind of prostitution criminal rings.
Key Takeaways:
- There have been estimated by Project Respect that show roughly 1000 trafficked women are working in the sex industry in Australia.
- There have been support measures, new visa arrangements and assistance added over the years to help those involved in trafficking.
- Trafficking still has a ways to go as many of the agencies that deal with the problem don’t respect the victim’s privacy
“The Commission’s involvement has been part of a growing international movement towards awareness of the seriousness and complexity of issues regarding trafficking and an understanding that the problem needs co-ordinated international responses.”
